Delete your account

How to delete your BharatChat account, what gets deleted, and what stays.

How to request deletion

In the app

  1. Open BharatChat and go to You → Account.
  2. Tap Delete my account.
  3. Enter the last 4 digits of your phone number to confirm. Your account is deleted and you’re signed out.

By email

If you can’t open the app any more:

  1. Email support@bharatchat.co with the subject Delete my account.
  2. Include your @username and the phone number you signed up with.
  3. We’ll ask you to confirm it’s you, then delete the account and email you when it’s done.

We complete deletion within 30 days.

Logging out isn’t deleting. “Log out of this phone” in the app only signs that phone out. Your account and chats stay until you ask us to delete them.

What gets deleted

  • Your profile: name, @username, about and profile photo. Your username becomes available to others.
  • Your phone number and account sign-in.
  • Notification tokens for all your phones.
  • Your chat settings, such as pinned, archived and muted chats.
  • Your membership of every group. If you were a group’s only admin, another member becomes admin.

What stays

  • Messages you already sent stay in other people’s chats, because they’re part of their conversations. They’re no longer linked to your profile. To remove a message for everyone, delete it in the app before you delete your account.
  • Service logs are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted.
  • Records we must keep by law, or to investigate abuse or a legal claim, are kept only as long as needed.

Before you delete

  • Deleting can’t be undone. You can sign up again with the same number, but your old chats won’t come back.
  • If you manage a group, make someone else an admin first.
  • Language packs downloaded for translation stay on your phone until you remove them in Language settings or uninstall the app.

Delete some data, keep your account

  • Messages: press and hold a message, then Delete for everyone to remove it from our servers and every member’s chat. Attached photos and voice notes are removed from our storage within 30 days.
  • Disappearing messages: turn on a timer in a chat and each new message is deleted from our servers after that time.
  • Profile: change your name, about and photo in You at any time.
  • Anything else: email support@bharatchat.co with your @username and what you want deleted. We reply within 30 days.
